What do Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Marlon Brando, Lin Manuel Miranda, Julie Andrews, Hugh Jackman, Bryan Cranston, and Whoopi Goldberg have in common?
They are all Theatre World Award winners.
Only one New York theatrical tradition has a 75-year history of honoring Outstanding Broadway and Off-Broadway debuts.
The Theatre World Award is the oldest award given for a debut theatre performance On or Off-Broadway and that is why we are reaching out to the community YET AGAIN and asking for help as we prepare to reopen Broadway
The contribution this Award has made to the theatre is incalculable. It is not a competition and is only given once. Because it is given for a debut performance, it encourages and inspires newcomers to the stage to continue to pursue their dream. It is freely given at a time when encouragement is so necessary in an industry known more for rejection than reception.
Since 1945, the Theatre World Awards have been a true family affair, a warm legacy, welcoming talented newcomers to New York's vibrant professional theatre scene.
This prestigious honor is presented annually by past TWA recipients to the present 'class of winners', in a heartfelt celebratory ceremony that welcomes new talent to the ongoing legacy of Theatre World Award winners.
This outstanding annual event is a true New York original, a non-competitive honor that embodies the eternal spirit of creativity, talent, and tradition. Best of all the annual event is free for all to attend, which is why this fundraiser i so important.
Sadly, the events of the past year and a half have threatened to end this time-honored theatrical tradition.
In addition to the first postponement of the awards ceremony in history, various vital grants and funding have been lost - funding that has allowed this celebration to be provided at no charge to our winners, their guests, and our beloved audience for generations.
We are asking members of our Theatre World Awards Family and Friends, past, present and future, to help us preserve this important part of theatre history.
Your generous tax-deductible donation can help us keep the flame alive, so that future generations of theatre newcomers can join this inspirational roster of TWA winners.
