Dear friends,
Following a very challenging year for our family, we are endeavoring to take a much needed vacation in May!
Last summer, while the family was providing hospice care for their mother Kalika, Gabriel became the legal guardian for his 28 year old brother, Kabir. During that time, Gabriel was flying back and forth from Virginia to Washington state and moved Kabir out of Kalika’s home, and into his first apartment with supported living, just outside of Seattle. Following Kalika's passing and Gabriel's return to Virginia, Kabir has been doing an outstanding job navigating all of these major life transitions. Still, It has been a particularly difficult time to be on opposite coasts from one another.
Since then, we have been working with Kabir and his team every day- coordinating his health care appointments, growing his community of support and encouraging him as he develops new routines and independent living skills. We stay in touch daily with regular video calls and One Direction singalongs but we are really looking forward to connecting in person again. This will be a chance for us to reflect on the big changes we’ve made it through together, and to celebrate all the huge strides Kabir is making as an adult!
While we have been planning this trip for some time, we are also still financially recovering from the unexpected events of last year - so, any support will allow us to breathe easier and treat ourselves to some intentional time off with Kabir. We are planning to visit friends and family in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and to rent a cabin to share some low-stress, quality time and entertainment together in the mountains of North Carolina!
We understand that times are tough for many of us right now but every bit of help is deeply appreciated!
Love,
Gabriel and Skye
