 Who We Are

Young and Published (“YAP”) is a not-for-profit literacy program that makes reading and writing fun for elementary students while guiding them to become published authors.  For the last 5 years, YAP has worked with dozens of students and produced 2 of books. 

What We Do

Through our exciting 6-week YAP Boot Camp, 3rd to 5th graders read short stories and explore the elements of literature.   Students are then challenged to write their own short stories using the lessons taught in the program.  Their stories are then published in a book.  Like real-life authors, students receive an advance for their stories and royalties based on book sales.  Manuscripts are co-edited by trained student editors who are also compensated for their work. 

Our program launches September 22, 2018.  YAP Students will become published authors this fall.

Why this Campaign Matters

According to a Department of Education study, 32 million U.S. adults (14 percent of the population) are illiterate.   21% of adults read below a 5th grade level. The Department of Justice has found that, “[t]he link between academic failure and delinquency, violence, and crime is welded to reading failure.

Your help is critical.  There is so much untapped potential in our youth with sometimes limited resources to help them meet their full potential.  By crowdsourcing, the spirit of "it takes a village to raise a child" is fully realized and these young authors can get the support they deserve. 

Where Your Money Is Going

All proceeds will be used for the six week YAP Literary Boot Camp,  publishing of this year's book, and small stipends to these young authors for their hard work!
