To paraphrase a well-known song by Joe Cocker, “we get by with a little help from our friends...”
Friends, we need your help to get by—and to enable our choir to reach new heights (musically and vertically!). Our choir, which has brought beautiful choral music to NYC for nearly a half-century, has outgrown our current performance risers. A new set will allow us to more efficiently, effectively and safely use our current performance space, and can travel with us to other locations as opportunities arise. Can you help us make it happen?
Some background on us — the West Village Chorale is a New York City institution, a seventy-voice avocational ensemble based out of Judson Memorial Church, at the south end of the city’s iconic Washington Square Park. Our members are talented singers with varied professional backgrounds—artists and attorneys to Zumba instructors!—but one shared goal: to make beautiful music together. Our members give voice, leadership and passion to the Chorale.
We perform several concerts per year, with repertoire ranging from traditional choral staples to contemporary pieces—including several world premieres and commissions in recent years.
Our annual Caroling Walk regularly sends hundreds of singers around our Village neighborhood, and our weekly Summer Sing series—47 summers and counting!—allows NYC’s many choral singers the chance to sing some classic works while area choruses are on summer hiatus.
Over the past several seasons, under the leadership of our Artistic Director and Conductor Colin Britt, we’ve grown in number from about fifty singers to just over seventy! As a result of our growth, we are in dire need of new risers. Our current set, lovingly handmade by one of our own members, have served us well for many years, but are no longer adequate to support our needs.
To raise the funds for this important upgrade, we’re asking you “rise” to the occasion and chip in! No donation is too small—and it’s tax deductible and easy to do!
