Chelsea and George Winters found out they were expecting their first baby in the spring of this year. Not long after, Chelsea was diagnosed with a liver disease that only occurs during pregnancy (Intrahepatic cholestasis)- which could lead to complications such as: preterm delivery, fetal distress, or a stillbirth.
As if that wasn’t enough to take in, a short time later they discovered that their sweet baby boy had several completely unrelated heart conditions (shones complex, small left heart structures and an aortic coarctation) that will require him to be taken to the NICU immediately after birth, and to potentially have open heart surgery within his first week of life. Baby Winters’ expected NICU stay is at least a month, but likely more.
After many appointments, Chelsea, George and the doctors have decided that a planned C-section delivery at OHSU (almost 3 hours away from their home) is the safest option for their baby.
Chelsea and George will be heading to OHSU in Portland OR on Sunday Oct. 1st. They are arriving a week early to ensure baby boy doesn’t try to arrive early on his own, as this would be a very high risk delivery for mom and baby.
Unfortunately, bills don’t disappear just because life throws a curve ball, and the mountain of medical bills won’t go away either.
But that’s where we come in! No new parents should have to worry about how they’re going to pay their bills while their baby fights through a NICU stay. No parent should have to go to work 3 hours away from their NICU baby because they can’t afford not to.
Please consider donating if you can, and sharing this so we can help these parents give all their focus and attention to their new bundle of joy!
