Help the Winters Family rebuild their Life

Donation protected
The Winters Family lost almost all of their personal belongings in Hurricane Ian.

Krissie Winters is an ESE Pre-K teacher at Rayma C Page Elementary School. She also runs the before and aftercare programs. Steve, her husband, is battling deteriorated health due to multiple medical conditions. They have 2 boys. Karsen, 10 and Kaden, 11. Both boys are Scouts. Karsen is an AOL Cub Scout in Pack 3300 and Kaden is a first year BSA Scout in Troop 3300 in Ft Myers. Kaden just started middle school at Lexington Middle School and Karsen started his last year at Rayma C Page Elementary. The past two years have been very difficult on the Winters family and unfortunately their struggles continue as they now need to rebuild after losing almost everything to the flood waters of hurricane Ian.

In August 2020, then 8 year old Karsen was diagnosed with Alveolar Rhabdomayoscarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer in his left hand. On September 10, 2020 he began chemotherapy to shrink the tumor. After 18 grueling months of chemotherapy and radiation, Karsen was declared cancer-free in March 2022. In August 2022, they discovered another cancerous tumor on his forearm. The specialists at Moffit Cancer Center in Tampa wasted no time and the tumor was surgically removed on Tuesday Sept 6, 2022. Karsen is scheduled to begin radiation treatments on Oct 4. Given the aggressive nature of his cancer and the most likely chance of the cancer returning, again, Karsen has been given a grim 8% survival rate. We are all praying Karsen is that 8%.

On Sept 29th, Hurricane Ian tore through Ft Myers leaving mass devastation. Thankfully, the Winters had evacuated from their home. Ian was not kind. His storm surge sent approximately 3 feet of muck filled water through their house and destroyed nearly everything. Their Scout family came together to salvage as much of their clothing as they could. The children’s bicycles and scooters were saved along with a few of their prized possessions. A team of great friends helped to empty almost everything else they own outside into a trash pile. The family is currently staying with friends awaiting hopeful aid from FEMA and the like.

People have reached out from near and far offering supplies and help. The Winters have a temporary roof over their head and currently have nowhere to store supplies BUT they are going to need to replace literally EVERYTHING they owned once their condo is assessed and cleaned out and the interior is rebuilt. They will have to do this all while their youngest son is battling his second round of cancer.

What they need is money. Money to continue to pay bills, medical bills, the mortgage for a house that isn’t inhabitable. Money to rebuild their life. And prayers. As many as you can send.

Please help our friends! And thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
