Whether we know each other already or we're just meeting, thank you for being here.
My name is Chanelle Wilson, founder of The Wine Down PHL, LLC. I fell in love with wine while teaching in South Africa, right after graduating college. Over the years, I learned more about wine through visiting local and global wineries and experiencing numerous tastings and wine tours. Sharing a bottle with friends became a highlight at special occasions and people knew I always had a great recommendation for them. The idea for The Wine Down came to me in late 2021 and combines my love for wine, education, and social connection.
The Wine Down brings the magic of quality Black- and woman-owned wine to busy professionals. Our mission is to keep you smiling, learning, and loving with every sip. At The Wine Down, we offer custom wine tastings, inclusive wine experiences, interactive wine education, and engaging social events. Our guiding principles are knowledge, access, and inclusion. We know that knowledge heightens wine experiences, and that wine is made for everyone (of age :) to enjoy it. However, we also recognize that there are overlooked demographics in all industries, and wine is no different. We intentionally highlight Black- and woman-owned wine brands to address this gap in the national and global wine industry.
The Wine Down wine garden creates a social space for busy professionals to connect with like-minded individuals and enjoy quality wine. We also take up the social responsibility to respond to inequities in the wine industry around race and gender. There will be education opportunities available for those who wish to deepen their engagement with wine, thus making wine education less intimidating and more viable. Wine education can be expensive, access is limited, and guided experiences are hard to come by in the current market.
We are raising $40,000 to create the capital needed to:
- establish a business model,
- hire business development and marketing consultants,
- secure permits and licensing,
- provide interactive educational opportunities with wine experts,
- program engaging events that create social and networking opportunities, and
- explore necessary steps for procuring The Wine Down wine garden location in Philadelphia, PA.
