Help the Williams Family Flee Domestic Abuse

Donation protected
Hello everyone. I set up this campaign to help share the story of my best friend; a Black trans person whose family is in grave danger. Presently, this friend is safe in the city where they attend college, but back home (a location which will remain undisclosed for safety), the lives of their loved ones are in jeopardy. I urge everyone who supports Black and queer lives to share and support this campaign. Mrs. Williams will be the sole beneficiary of this account and fund allocation will be detailed below.

BACKGROUND:

Mrs. Williams and her five young daughters desperately need your help. The Williams family are low income, Black, and experiencing housing instability due to domestic violence. As a Black woman working a minimum wage job, Mrs. Williams has had to depend upon her abuser’s income to meet her family’s survival needs. Recently however, her husband’s heightened violence has left her no choice but to seek alternative accommodations. As many news sources have reported, the COVID quarantine has acutely exacerbated domestic abuse, and because of this, the Williams family has had to make a choice between their lives and their housing. Those in positions of power are using this pandemic to exploit the most marginal among us. As the relentless attack on Black women pervades, a stable home for Mrs. Williams and her daughters is her top priority, and it should be yours too!

As opposed to “avenging the life of a Black person killed by the police,” ask yourself “what action have I taken this month to improve the life of a Black person?” “Do you care as much about Black people who are alive as those who are unjustly killed?” It is up to us to carve out a world where Black women are protected and uplifted, and that work starts right now, with a donation towards the Williams family’s safety. They deserve our support!

The funds will be allocated to provide the William’s family:

1) Secure housing in their area: 1st and last month’s rent, a security deposit, utilities, and past due rent.
--> After having financial information hidden from her by her husband, Mrs. Williams needs to pay off $7,000 of past due rent from an eviction in 2013 in order to improve her credit and find a safe and secure housing option. This has been a major barrier keeping Mrs. Williams from having a tenant application accepted and leaving her abusive household. Mrs. Williams and her children do not deserve to live under the threat of death because of bad credit.

2) Living resources: The Williams family will have to move out quickly and stealthily, which means leaving behind most of their belongings in an attempt to escape.

3) Transportation to a new place of residence.

*** In order to protect their identity, the picture used for this campaign does not include the Williams family.
