Hi, my name is Krystal. This GoFundMe has been created for the White family - Matt, Ally, Emma, Bennett, and the newest addition Addilyn, who was born October 18th, 2021. Her birth was beautiful, but in the first few minutes of her life it became very apparent that she was having difficulty breathing. After initial stabilization and suspicion of her diagnosis, her very first car ride was in an ambulance with the NICU team headed to Eastern Maine Medical Center. It was there that they did a CT scan and confirmed that she had Bilateral Choanal Atresia. The quick definition of this diagnosis is that her nasal passages were completely blocked by bone, so she could not breathe through her nose at all. Since babies are obligate nose breathers, this is a very serious condition. The closest specialist that could take care of Addilyn was in Portland, so when she was only 1 day old she was Life Flighted to Maine Medical Center. She had her first surgery the next day, spent several days in the NICU, and was discharged home with a rigorous regimen of saline flushes, medicated drops, and suction to keep her brand new nasal passages clear.

She did well initially at home, but more recently she was having increasing difficulty breathing through her nose. A visit to the specialist resulted in another ambulance ride and admission to the hospital where she underwent a 2nd surgery.

Addilyn is out of the hospital now and doing well! But as you can imagine, the medical bills are rolling in and they are substantial. Insurance will certainly help, but the total is well into 6 figures and they have upwards of $20,000+ that they will be responsible for.
