On behalf of my family, I am reaching out to our friends, neighbors, and the incredible community of Wharton, New Jersey, with a heavy heart. This is something we never imagined we would have to do.

On Tuesday, July 21st, my family's lives were changed forever when the devastating tornadoes that touched down across New Jersey destroyed the home they had built over the past 15 years. The severe flooding that followed was so catastrophic that it washed away the very foundation beneath their home, leaving it structurally unsafe and ultimately condemned. In a matter of moments, everything they had worked so hard for was gone, and they did not have renters insurance.

As the floodwaters rapidly rose, the situation became increasingly dangerous. Authorities rushed to the home and instructed my family that they needed to gather what they could as quickly as possible and evacuate immediately. With the oil tank floating through the flooded basement and the home becoming more unstable by the minute, there was no time to think—only time to leave.

That was the last time they would ever walk through the doors of the home where they created countless memories over the last 15 years.

Everything is gone.

Fifteen years of family memories. Childhood keepsakes. Family photographs. Furniture. Clothing. Birth certificates. Passports. Social Security cards. Personal documents. Everyday necessities. They have not been allowed back inside since that day because the home has been declared condemned and unsafe to enter.

Today, they are starting over with absolutely nothing.

For anyone who knows my family, you know they have never been the kind of people to ask for help. Their home on Fern Avenue in Wharton was always open to family, friends, neighbors, and anyone who needed a place to gather, a warm meal, or a helping hand. They have spent years giving to others without ever expecting anything in return. Now, for the first time, they are the ones who need their community.

They have already reached out to organizations including NJ Family Promise, Project Self-Sufficiency, and other emergency assistance programs, but as many families know, assistance takes time, and their needs are immediate. That is why we are asking for your help.

No donation is too small. Whether it's $5, $10, or simply sharing this fundraiser with others, every act of kindness brings them one step closer to rebuilding their lives. Every contribution will help provide temporary housing, clothing, food, replacement identification documents, medications, basic necessities, and eventually help them begin the long journey of rebuilding a place they can once again call home.
