Update: Owen has been in the hospital in Portland for more than 30 days now. He is still in the PICU but is making progress. He has a long road to recovery but he is making progress every day. You will notice that we have increased the amount we are trying to raise in this GoFundMe as clearly the expenses that the family is going to incur will be substantial. Hi, my name is Derek van Bronkhorst and I am setting up a GoFundMe page for my Goddaughter Becca Weaver and her family.

Following the Oregon State/San Diego State football game, Becca, Gavin, Owen and Hunter Weaver were driving home. As most of you know, Becca is the daughter of Tim and Lisa Stroud. Tim is a fraternity brother of mine and a life-long friend. Becca is my Goddaughter. As they approached the I-5 intersection on Highway 34, traffic slowed and Becca came to almost a complete stop when the car behind her rammed into them from behind at a high rate of speed. The Toyota Camry in which they were driving was completely totaled and sits in a tow yard in Albany in an unrecognizable mess.

Cars can be replaced but the damage that was inflicted to the Weaver family was significant. Owen (12) was hurt the worst. After being sent by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital, he was in critical condition and the decision was made to Life Flight him to Portland (Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel). The next several days will be critical for Owen so any and all prayers are most welcome.

Gavin also sustained significant injuries. He has two broken scapulae, one eye socket cracked in two places and a small brain bleed, among other general crash related injuries.

Becca sustained a serious bump on her head and a resulting concussion as well as bumps and burns related to the crash. They were fortunate that all of the airbags deployed.

Hunter (8) was more fortunate in that he sustained only bumps and bruises but has already suffered some nightmares from the crash.

I have organized this GoFundMe account to help them deal with the significant costs that are associated with an accident like this and the ongoing medical bills that are sure to follow.
