Help the veterinarian to save Chip the service dog
Donation protected
Welcome to Chip’s story.
Five years ago my brother, Jake, suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury following an accident leaving him permanently disabled. A year after his accident my brother adopted Chip, a French bulldog that he wanted to be his service animal. Chip is not just a pet to Jake, he is his permanent “battle buddy”. When Jake needed motivation to continue in life Chip was his motivation.
Chip and Jake went through a year long strenuous training and successfully completed his medical service dog training with Train a Dog-Save a Warrior (TADSAW) which is an American with Disabilities (ADA) approved source of training. Chip provides so much support to my brother and since my brother is on a fixed income due to his disability the medical expenses can be overwhelming due to his recent injury.
Chip has been at Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine since Monday, Jan 9th, undergoing treatment for a herniated disc in his back leaving him paralyzed in his rear legs unable to urinate and pass stool on his own. We don’t know how he injured himself but it could have been from just jumping off the bed. He has since developed pneumonia due to the extensive panting he has done which the vet has stated was caused by anxiety, related to leaving Jake’s side. He has also developed a stomach ulcer. We have been told that Jake has two choices to make, to take a chance on Chip who will have a 50/50 likelihood of gaining “some” use of his back legs which would require a wheelchair or to euthanize him. Medications and inpatient care has already exceeded $5000.00. Chip was with Jake during his most darkest times after his accident so now Jake wants to be there for Chip during this dark time.
All of the donations will go directly towards Chips medical expenses and any leftovers will be donated to TADSAW to help other warriors struggling with anxiety, PTSD, military sexual trauma and traumatic brain injuries.
Thank you for reading our story.
