Help the Van de Puttes after Drew hit by car

On January 10, 2024, while Drew was riding his scooter to attend classes at the University of Kentucky, a car struck him. He’s been admitted to a trauma unit in Lexington, and it is unknown when he will be discharged, much less what his future holds. He sustained significant, life-altering injuries. The known injuries include: a large laceration running from his forehead to the middle of his head; fractures of the forehead extending into his orbital and sinus cavities; and fractures in multiple thoracic vertebrae. More testing is scheduled to rule out additional fractures or other damage that did not show in the original images. As of this writing, no surgeries are planned, but that of course could change.

Friends and community members of the Van de Puttes, you know they are the most caring, giving individuals. The first time I met Drew, almost two years ago, he didn’t know who I was, but he gave me the greatest hug! They volunteer in the community. They are quick to support those in need. Even when they are facing adversity of some sort, they always show up. Mr. Rogers said, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.” The family has lived that. Now is our time to be the helpers and return the favor to them.

Her children are her top priority, so Laura is in Kentucky by Drew’s side in one of the scariest situations for a mom. Laura isn’t able to work while she’s there, which creates a significant burden on top of everything else. And they are facing enormous expenses without knowing what the driver’s insurance will cover or when. This Go Fund Me is set up to help meet immediate monetary needs for them. Any gift is appreciated and will help. Whether or not you are able to contribute, they appreciate your thoughts and prayers for them and all the medical staff caring for Drew.
