The day we signed the lease for our house I got notified that I was being laid off from my job. Chris has continued to work full time, plus my odd jobs and unemployment had kept us going for a while. I have a really solid job lined up but any support we can get over the next week can make or break our housing situation. Now our utilities and mortgage have stacked up and we're in a position where we could lose our home. Recent vet bills and our water heater breaking are also on the list of problems.
Our home has been a place people can stabilize when in need, whether it's a spot to crash, shower, laundry, etc. More than just a home, we want to keep providing support for our friends and community. Chris has a job in non-profit harm reduction work and we've both done grassroots mutual aid for most of our lives. For years while we could afford it we also ran an all ages venue here in Grants Pass and helped organize a lot of music, art, and resource navigation events. It fostered support systems for youth to safely find their footing in life and create artistic platforms for themselves. We've really done the best we can to better the lives of the people around us.
I'm not used to asking for help and I know everyone is struggling right now in a bunch of ways. Since I don't have much of a choice I'm asking our community to help us stabilize and get back on our feet. To catch up on our mortgage and deal with pending utility shutoffs it'll take around $3500. We appreciate any contributions and sharing this to get the word out.
