In 2021, our family faced one of the most challenging years of our lives. We were in and out of court for a custody battle, working with CASA and case workers, all while caring for our three oldest grandkids who had just moved in with us under an emergency home placement order. The stress was overwhelming, especially for the children, but our first and foremost priority has always been their well-being and happiness.
Amidst all the chaos, we recently discovered that our taxes for 2021 were never filed. My husband, Ross, usually handles our taxes, and I had no idea there was an issue. Last week, we learned that the IRS took a large portion of our 2025 tax refund due to this oversight. We were shocked, especially since previous checks with the IRS and their website showed no outstanding balance, and we had received our refunds in prior years. This unexpected loss has shaken our household to the core.
Most of our family and friends know that the twins are passionate about competitive cheer. They have worked incredibly hard all season and are now set to compete at the Youth Summit in Tampa, Florida, and the D2 Summit in Orlando, Florida. These opportunities mean the world to them—they’ve formed strong bonds with their teammates and coaches, and this is a dream come true. Unfortunately, with our recent financial setback, we’re struggling to cover the costs of travel, hotel, food, competition fees, coaches’ fees, and gift bags for the girls.
We don’t know what else to do but to reach out to our community for help. This fundraiser is for the twins, not for us. We would be truly grateful for any blessing you can offer, and when we are able, we promise to pay it forward. Thank you for supporting our family and helping the twins chase their dreams.
