On October 8, 2022, the Turriago family came to America fleeing terrorist groups that were threatening them in their homeland of Colombia. Since then, the parents, Jose and Frisca, have built a better life in Santa Clara for themselves and their children, Jose Matias (13) and Mary (11). They have done everything immigration asked of them. Jose and Frisca have obtained their Real ID, social security cards and work permits and have both been working hard to support their family. Their children have learned English, made many friends, and are exceptional students at Cabrillo Middle School.
On Tuesday, September 23, Frisca went for a routine appointment at the immigration office in San Jose and never came out. She was detained by ICE and was taken to a detention center in the Mojave Desert. Obviously, Frisca’s detention has tremendously impacted the family, both emotionally and financially. After being here for three years, their very strong asylum case is finally due to be heard in December, and is now in jeopardy. Obviously, their need is great! Hiring a lawyer alone will cost around $15,000!
Please do what you can to help this precious family to get through this ordeal.
