Help the Tomlin’s Recover and Rebuild

The Tomlin’s are in need of some help on their journey to a safe and healthy living space. They are displaced from their home, with a myriad of illnesses and medical conditions, still paying all of their bills for a house they can’t step in.
Cory and Lena bought their very first home in late 2020, and soon after started having some autoimmune disease flares, reoccurring respiratory illnesses, asthma flare ups, and sinus infections. However it wasn’t until last month when they decided to replace a baseboard, that it became dangerous. Upon opening the baseboard they realized the entire inside of the wall and floor was lined in toxic mold. They immediately tried to close it up. However the spores had already traveled out.
The entire family experienced illness from this exposure. Mold remediation specialists were called in and after air quality tests they determined the breathable air in the house had the highest spore concentration they had ever worked with. The tests measured airborne mold spores at 100%. They were told to leave the home immediately.
Since this exposure, they have been fighting respiratory infections, asthmatic episodes, and fungal/sinus/skin infections. Their littlest baby has asthma and takes medication daily for management, she is still sick and has reoccurring respiratory issues even after being out of the home for weeks.
While trying to heal physically they are relying on friends to house them. They are a family of five and it’s difficult for them to find places to stay that will house all of them together. They truly need a space of their own even if it’s a motel room. They have been separated from their pets, and their sense of normalcy is in upheaval. They continue to go to work, go to school and pay bills for a home they can’t even step in.
The insurance company refuses to help because they believe this mold grew slowly over time due to an undetectable slow water leak. However there are many indicators leading to this information being withheld from the Tomlin’s purposefully. They have been instructed to get legal counsel. But paying for an empty household, extra medical expenses, time off from work due to medical emergencies, etc they are unlikely to be able to afford a lawyer.
Funds would be used for:
Cost of Living while displaced from their home (a fund for a motel/extended stay room, or small apartment while they are displaced)
Mold Remediation (30,000$-32,000$) as quoted by several mold remediation companies.
Medical Expenses (co-pays and treatments for the significant amount of infections and amount of appointments related to the exposure)
Legal Counsel
Personal Items (non washable, porous items which will have to be disposed of e.g. toys, fabric furniture, food items etc)
❤️ I’m setting up a GoFundMe for my cousin Lena Tomlin and her family. They are the kindest, most generous people. They never hesitate to help others. She looks for ways to support and encourage others in every moment, and I’m hoping that they will receive some of the same love and support from others in this uncertain and difficult time. ❤️
