Please help this family.
In March of 2021, the Timmons family's life was flipped upside down and changed forever when Damon Timmons, at only 36, had a stroke that damaged a lot of his brain. One month later, after the stroke, Damon had his first big seizure on his way to work. After the first episode, the seizures started to progress rapidly. He was sent to a neurologist in Oklahoma City, OK, in October of 2021 and put on several medications to try and help control the seizures. But then, on Dec 27th, 2021, Damon had a massive seizure, leaving even more brain damage and resulting in him having to give up his job for the safety of others and himself. His wife, Amber, stepped up and went to work to help provide for their family as they have two young children in school, and Damon's doctor ordered him to quit his job and apply for disability.
Over the past couple of years, doctors have tried several different medications, but nothing has stopped the seizures, and they've only gotten worse. To make things worse, the high doses of medication are damaging Damon's organs. On Feb 27th, 2024, while preparing for their little girl's 11th birthday, Damon had a massive seizure that wouldn't stop and almost took his life. The episode left him in what they call Status Epilepticus, which means he had a massive seizure his body couldn't stop or come out of on its own, and he had to be rushed to the local hospital and placed on life support and in a medically induced coma to relax his brain and shut everything down. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, ICU unit, where he stayed for two really long and very scary weeks. The doctors didn't know how much damage was done to his brain or what condition Damon was going to wake up in. He was very lucky when he woke up; he still had most of his memory.
Shortly after, his wife Amber was forced to leave her job at McAlester Regional Hospital to stay home and take care of Damon 24/7. Since his release, his seizures still haven't been able to be controlled with medication, and local doctors were out of options to try. So they were referred 8 hours away in St. Louis, Missouri, to Barnes Jewish Hospital Epilepsy Center. They have been having to travel back and forth to the Epilepsy Center in Missouri to see the neurologist team that specializes in severe epilepsy. After months of testing, the doctors advised the only way to stop further brain damage, stop the seizures, and save Damon's life is to have very extensive inpatient testing using intracranial EEG mapping followed by brain surgery to remove a tiny area of the brain causing the seizures.
So on Nov 11th, they go back to Barnes Jewish Hospital in Missouri for a minimum 2-week stay at the hospital for all the needed testing and this special EEG. They will place over 20 needles through the skull and into Damon's brain, then reduce his seizure medications to induce a seizure so they can map all problem areas and paths misfiring in specific areas in the brain. The doctors need to make sure they are correct in diagnosing the exact spot that needs to be removed. If everything goes smoothly and they get the seizure they need, he will be having brain surgery while he is there, possibly extending their stay even longer. So 2 weeks could turn into a month or longer.
They will need as much help as possible to be able to afford this next long hospital stay and to help with trip expenses as well as home responsibilities like rent, food, utilities, and the basic needs of their two young children who are still attending grade school.
Everythingwill go towards bills, food and anything that comes up.
