Help the Thorntons Save a Rescued Kitten

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Chad Thornton. Along with my brother Nate and wife Sheri, we have rescued a kitten from a cruel violent fate. While driving on M50 in Monroe for work Sunday Aug 3 in the middle of the day, Nate found that someone had run over a litter of kittens and left them to die. As he drove up, this little girl raised a single paw into the air. He pulled over and scooped her up. Unfortunately, the rest had all passed away. We immediately started looking for a vet thinking we needed to get her put down as quickly as possible to end her suffering, but on a Sunday there's not much available. I met up with Nate and brought her to the BluePearl Pet Hospital on Packard Rd in Ann Arbor.

Nate, Sheri and I decided when I took her, if there was any chance she could be saved and live a happy life, we'd do what it takes. Thankfully, this little girl is a fighter! So we had to fight as well

As everyone who's had a pet is probably aware, vet emergency costs are high, so we're looking for help in defraying the initial costs of taking care of her and hopefully bringing her back to full health. At BluePearl, she had an ultrasound, x-rays, catheter IV, fluid therapy for shock and she had a pretty severe concussion and they were worried about a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Because of the TBI they didn't want to give her pain meds until she could be checked out today by the doctors at Companion Animal Clinic in Tecumseh.

Happily, her pupils were back to normal today and they didn't feel there was any permanent brain damage. Most of her other tests looked pretty good too, though she definitely has severe pain in both front legs and one claw has been ripped completely out. There are no major breaks, but they're sending the images to a radiologist to make sure there are no hairline fractures anywhere.

She is now on pain meds and resting. Hopefully the worst of the physical trauma is behind her. Now we have to help her through the mental trauma and let her know she is now safe and VERY loved.

Thank you,

Nate, Chad and Sheri
