Help the Thomson's - Izzie's Medical Expenses

The Thomson family could really use our support and help.

For months their sweet daughter Izzie was having what they thought were headaches that progressed to migraine's. Brittney and Pete were doing all they could to help Izzie and find answers. Two weeks ago, the headaches progressed to the point that she was in miserable pain and refused to eat or drink anything.

Friday night, June 10th, Brittney started getting more worried and anxious they needed to get Izzie to the hospital. They were in communication with their pediatrician about dehydration but because Izzie was already asleep, they decided to wait until the morning to bring her in. Pete slept next to Izzie that night in fear. In the morning, she wasn’t much better. Shaky and weak, they brought Izzie to Primary Children's Hospital thinking her symptoms were from severe dehydration. The doctors took her head pain and the way she was shaking very seriously from the second they checked in. Bringing about four doctors into their room from the get-go with more to follow. They took a CT quickly and found a near 3-inch tumor in her head pressing up against her cerebellum. With lots of tests, MRI’s, blood draws, and the works they scheduled Izzie for brain surgery, removal of the tumor, the very next morning. After an initial scare from multiple doctors and social workers telling Brittney and Pete the tumor was cancerous. They said to start contacting family for support as their lives were about to change in unthinkable ways. The pediatric neurologist, who would be doing the surgery, came in an hour later and had high confidence the tumor would be benign based on its appearance on the MRI. With much relief he was right. The surgeon was able to perform the very long, intense surgery perfectly. Many prayers were answered, and miracles were performed that day. Izzie spent multiple days after the surgery recovering in the Pediatric ICU. During her stay she amazed all the medical staff as she was recovering so well and showing improvement so quickly. Izzie is an angel little girl. She lights up the room with her personality and little voice that is so mature for her age. In the week following her surgery, Brittney could see drastic changes in her ability and motivation to play with toys, walk, run, and decreased anxiety and panic in her behavior. Although the tumor turned out to be benign, Izzie is looking at lots of doctor visits, physical therapy, and follow up MRI’s, with which during many of her childhood years they have to put her asleep for, for the rest of her life.

Pete and Brittney would in time be able to financially recover from this terrifying experience themselves with sacrifices made and a lot of effort put forth. But we know it would take a great deal of weight off their shoulders, during a highly stressful time, to have our help in covering a lot of the extensive medical bills that will start coming in as they have a high out-of-pocket amount with their insurance.
Pete and Brittney have been doing their best to save up to grow their family. This can take a lot of time to do, as adoption is an extremely expensive endeavor. Their goal was to soon be able to adopt another child and complete their family. With anything raised in excess of their medical bills for Izzie, they will be saving it for their next adoption.

Pete & Brittney are incredible people and parents; though they aren’t ones to ask for help, they deserve it. They work hard to give to their family and friends, and we can’t wait to show up for them in return. If you are in a place to give back financially, we hope you’ll do so. We can’t think of more deserving people. We would love to give them the peace of mind to recover and spend time together without this financial burden weighing on them. If you would prefer to donate to them directly Brittney’s Venmo is @Brittney-Thomson and Pete's Venmo is @peterabbit
