Update from Jennie-
Hey guys, some of you may have heard we had a fire in our home Sunday morning. An ebike battery that was powered off and NOT plugged in went into what they call a thermal runaway at 230 in the morning. We all got out safely including our dogs Storm and Remi and Wyatts friend Leo who was staying over. We are super blessed as our house is still standing but because it was a lithium ion battery fire everything in our house is toxic making it unlivable.
Thank you to everyone that has called and messaged to check on us and ask what we need. Sorry if you have reached out and I haven't got back with you everything is crazy and dealing with everyone that has to come to the house or we have talk with which has consumed most of our time. We are looking at a few months before we can get part of the house livable ( where most of the damage is will be sealed off). Once they can get the livingroom, kitchen, dinning room and our room safe we can move back in while they do the repairs to Wyatts room where the fire started, Kevs office and the bathroom.
For everyone asking what we need, Kevs coworkers, First Flight High School, and Liberty Christian Church has made sure that Wyatt has some clothes and shoes to get him though as his room and belongings are a total loss. As far as other items like furniture, clothes and the other 800 million things we will need that I haven't been able to wrap my brain around we have no place to store anything and until they haul everything out that can't be salvaged we have no idea. If you would like to help Friends of ours started a go fund me and honestly gift cards would be amazing, Walmart, Target, Food Lion, Amazon, Petsmart, local resturants that way when we get somewhere or back in the house we can pick up things that we need or grab food while working on the house.
Help the Thomas Family Rebuild After a Devastating Fire
At 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, the Thomas family’s world was turned upside down when a fire broke out in their home. The fire started from a bike battery in Wyatt’s room, and while everyone made it out safely — including their two dogs — Wyatt’s room was destroyed, and the smoke damage has left the entire house unlivable.
Jennie, the heart of this family, is one of the most giving people you’ll ever meet. Even while facing her own serious medical challenges — waiting for a costly surgery and managing expensive medications — she’s always been the first to help others. Kevin, her husband, is a dedicated first responder who was thankfully home that night to get everyone out safely. Their daughter Keira just graduated high school, and Wyatt is still reeling from losing his room and belongings in the fire.
Right now, the Thomases are facing the overwhelming task of replacing everything, finding temporary housing, and covering mortgage payments, deductibles, and all the unexpected costs that come with a disaster like this. On top of that, Jennie’s medical bills continue to pile up, and the family is depending on help with work because of Kevin’s demanding schedule and Jennie’s health.
In the six+ years I’ve known them, I’ve never once seen this family ask for help. They are the kind of people who give without hesitation, who show up for others, and who make everyone around them feel cared for. Now, it’s our turn to show up for them.
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward helping the Thomases get back on their feet — covering essentials, temporary housing, and the long road of rebuilding their home and lives.
If you can, please donate and share this page. Let’s surround this incredible family with the love and support they’ve always given so freely to others.
