My name is Josh Taylor, and I never imagined having to ask for help like this. Over the past few years, my family has endured severe trauma, medical crises, and heartbreaking loss. Now, with my own major spinal surgery less than a month away and no income during recovery, we are facing the very real risk of losing our home. I am sharing our story honestly and respectfully because keeping our children safe, housed, and supported is more important than pride.
Our Family’s Reality
My wife, Liz, is a survivor of extreme domestic violence. Years ago, she was brutally assaulted by a former partner and beaten into a coma, suffering a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). News articles documenting the attack exist publicly.
As a result of her injuries, Liz lives with long-term neurological and cognitive challenges that affect her memory, emotional regulation, sensory processing, and daily functioning. Her recovery has required, and still requires, ongoing neurological care, mental health treatment, and constant family support.
Tragically, Liz was pregnant at the time of the attack. Due to her incapacitation and medical condition following the assault, the child was later placed for adoption. This loss, layered on top of her injuries, is something she continues to grieve and process.
Our Children and Why Stability Matters
We are raising three children: a 13-year-old daughter, an 8-year-old son, and a 4-year-old son.
Our daughter is autistic and requires consistent mental health care, therapy, and structure to stay regulated and safe. Interruptions to her care or housing instability cause serious setbacks.
Our family is also still grieving the loss of our son, Axton. That loss alone reshaped our lives forever.
My Health and Job Loss
I am facing major spinal surgery in approximately 30 days. The procedure involves disc replacement and spinal stabilization. Recovery is expected to take at least 12 weeks, during which I will not be able to work or drive.
Earlier this year, I lost my job after being unable to meet performance goals due to frequent medical appointments, managing my wife’s TBI-related needs, and supporting my children. I requested a second chance but was informed that possibly.. my required medical leave made continued employment unrealistic.
Where We Are Now
We are currently $3,200 past due on rent, with more coming. We are at risk of losing our home. We lost most of our food assistance due to new regulations. We are without stable medical insurance. Mental health care for our autistic daughter now includes out-of-pocket costs.
We are doing everything we can, but our situation is urgent.
Why We Are Asking for Help
Funds raised will go toward housing stabilization, essential bills during recovery, food and household necessities, mental health care for our daughter, and medical and therapy support related to Liz’s TBI.
If You Can Help
Any amount helps. Sharing helps. Kind words help. Thank you for reading our story and helping us protect our children and our home.
With gratitude and Love,
Josh Taylor and Family
