Help the Tan family fight Cancer

Donation protected
Hello everyone, my name is Richard Tan and 10 years ago, my family of 7 have moved to Australia in hope of a better life and although it hasn’t been an easy road for the family, it had been relentlessly tougher for my mother. Throughout the years, my mother has diligently provided for everyone in the family (living, education, savings), always striving to improve the quality of our family’s life whilst we all shared a small 2 bedroom apartment unit working several jobs. She had never been one to complain about how tough things were and continued to wear a smile with everyone even when seasons were rough. Her tenacious spirit and parental sacrifice wanted nothing more than to provide better living conditions for her children but suffered silently in the background with a long list of health complications.

Unknown to us, because she wasn’t a citizen, she was not entitled to healthcare nor health checks and didn’t have the time nor the concern to check on ailments with the thought of lessening our worries and burdens. What developed as a small tumour had slowly gnawed away at her health. It reached the point where she could no longer tolerate the pain and was close to being unconscious at home one morning. It was in June of 2018 last year when she was sent to the emergency ward and was diagnosed with Stage IV terminal Cervical Cancer.

The last few months have been extremely hard on everyone in the family having to witness her suffering - enduring multiple instances of pain, sleepless nights with emotional hurdles and breakdowns, breathlessness, heavy abdominal cramps and uncontrollable vaginal pain, including bleeding nonstop despite various blood transfusions (to which we are grateful for the donors). Her body has been showing physical signs of frailty as she’s lost the ability to support herself and lift her leg, much less walk with her feet. There were times our family would wake up from the middle of the night by her screams writhing in pain and face struck with terror. Our family is dutifully supporting her with around the clock care and working more in her place.

Although diagnosed by doctors with a small chance of survival, she and her children are extremely determined for her to stay alive. We are hoping her efforts will not be in vain as her perseverance thus far has been an amazing inspiration to everyone around her circle, as many would have given up after what she’s been through. Over the past few months, we have been exploring many alternative treatments, considering various Eastern and Western medicine and doctoral practices but with her slow rate of recovery – she eventually decided to opt for radiotherapy in hope to temporarily stop her bleeding, which has brought its gripping share of side effects. In an attempt to turn things around, she had further undergone various integrative treatments in Thailand totaling $70k AUD, which has exhausted most of our resources and had not proven effective.

Currently, we are raising funds for her latest hospital treatment in Guangzhou, China where previously, she was informed she only had a few months left to live but is clinging onto hope for a turnaround overseas. The treatment for her cancer involves a 4-week process Intra-arterial Intervention, Iodine implantation, Immuno-therapy, Chinese treatment, and other hospital-related fees, accruing to a total of RMB 150,000, which on the time of writing this is equivalent to $31,500 AUD. Furthermore, a full recovery requires her readmittance for up to 8 times which shoots the bill up to a total of $252,000 AUD, push aside accommodation, travel fees, and currency conversion costs. The staggering amount has left our family at odds and we are on our last leg to sell whatever assets we have in hopes to compensate.

Despite all this, she is still insistent on maintaining her good faith, waiting for a miracle to come through and I kindly ask if you could help be part of our miracle. We as a family would be extremely grateful to know who’s been touched by her endearing love and smile and I owe it to her wishes of living a life of longevity and prosperity be fulfilled. I know that money can be tight, so please know that even $5 helps us get closer to our goal! If you can’t, we understand and deeply appreciate your thoughts and prayers. If you’d like to help however, you could support my GoFundMe by making a donation and share it within your network, which will be greatly appreciated. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll be happy to answer them. We will also be providing updates to inform donors on where your contribution has helped. Thank you all so much ❤
