On Tuesday, June 24, a fire engulfed and destroyed the Taitano family’s house in Sinajana, Guam—a house that has stood for generations and held deep roots in our community.
This wasn’t just a house. For decades, in addition to where she raised her family, it was where my Grandma, Isabel S. Q. Taitano, ran a humble but vital community post office from the side of her home. It was a place where neighbors came not just for mail, but for stories, laughter, and warmth. The house was a living legacy of love, service, and family.
The post office closed in 2000, so Grandma Taitano could care for her husband, my grandfather Jesus, when he was ill. Our family members, siblings Odelia and Benjamin (Mike), have been living here with their families and thankfully were able to escape the fire; however, they have lost everything.
Monetary donations are greatly appreciated to help them get back on their feet and rebuild the historic family home and their lives. Please consider adding Go Fund Me fees to the donation so that they receive the full amount. No donation is too small!
