Help the Tabasi family leave Gaza

We are a family based in Toronto, and we are reaching out to ask for your help in raising funds for the Tabasi family in Gaza. We first learned about their situation in September 2024 through an Instagram post calling for aid to help them escape the escalating crisis. since then, we have been able to send some funds to assist with food, but the situation has grown even more dire, and our support is no longer enough.

As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza intensifies, life has become increasingly unbearable. With Israel’s ongoing food blockade and the suspension of aid from UNRWA, Gaza has descended into a nightmare for its people. For the Tabasi family—a household of 12—the daily struggle is unimaginable. Food is scarce, with a single bag of flour now costing $350 USD, and medical supplies are virtually unavailable. The family is faced with the heart-wrenching reality of having to choose between food and the most basic medical care. No family should ever be forced to make such an agonizing decision.

In October 2024, just one month after we first made contact with the Tabasi family, a devastating attack targeted their area in Rafah where Abdullah, the youngest son, a 14 years old, and his brother-in-law, were visiting Abdullah's maternal uncle. The airstrike resulted in the deaths of his uncle’s wife, their daughter (Abdullah's cousin), and other family members.

The attack left both Abdullah and his brother-in-law with life-altering injuries. Abdullah was struck by shrapnel, which became lodged in his leg, leaving him unable to walk. The injuries also rendered his arm completely immobile, and without urgent surgery, he will never regain the use of it. The brother-in-law, a new father, was paralyzed from the waist down, facing a future filled with overwhelming uncertainty and hardship.

Already struggling to find enough food due to the blockade imposed by Israel, the Tabasi family now faces the heartbreaking reality of having to prioritize medical treatment over basic survival. All available funds have been exhausted in an effort to care for Abdullah and his brother-in-law, whose injuries require urgent treatment that is, sadly, out of reach in the current situation.

Like so many other families, the Tabasis have not been spared from the brutal and genocidal assault by the Israeli government and the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF). They have been relentlessly targeted, displaced from their home, and subjected to starvation. They are now displaced in the ruins of Rafah, where they, like countless others, are without access to proper medicine, food, or shelter.

For these reasons, we are urgently asking for your help to raise the necessary funds to assist the Tabasi family in leaving Gaza and finding safety. Like all human beings, they deserve to live in peace, with dignity, and have their most basic needs met—free from the daily threat of violence and deprivation.
