Help The Swensk Family
Donation protected
My name is Jessica Murphy, and I am a friend of Selma Swensk, a thoughtful, hardworking and kind woman. She, her 15 yr old son, and her little dog all became homeless this week when her rented house in Centre Lake (Sarasota) was completely flooded during a 4 day storm.
I met Selma shortly after moving to Florida 5 yrs ago. Selma has always been a ray of sunshine - helping others, and volunteering her time, despite the hardships of being a widowed single mom with no family in this country.
Selma is self employed, and currently has no income while she tries to put her life back together. Her home has been declared uninhabitable. Although she had renter's insurance, she was advised that she is not covered because the 4 day storm was not a hurricane.
Selma and her son have lost just about everything and they need some temporary financial help to stabilize. They have no relatives in this country to lean on, and need the understanding and generosity of this community to get back under the same roof and start recovering from this situation.
Selma, Nick, and their Yorkie (Daisy) all are currently living in different places. Her landlord has allowed her to break her lease and she is trying to find a place to go to reunite her family. She will have expenses such as storage fees, living expenses, and replacing household goods. Not much can be salvaged, and she will not be able to work for a few weeks.
Selma is devastated, and could really use the help to get back on her feet. The sooner they can get into a new home together, the sooner their personal recovery will happen.
Every donation is very much appreciated, no matter the amount. And if you can't donate, please share this page so we can help her reach her goal of having a roof over her head again, and back to being self sufficient.
