Help the Swan Family Escape Dangerous Home

The Swan family, in a desire to be closer to their loved ones, moved from New Mexico to Fort Worth, Tx in early 2024. The move was planned from a distance, including house hunting. When they found their rental house online— the perfect size, a beautiful yard, a good part of town, at exactly the right price— they thought they’d discovered their long-term home and signed the lease.
Immediately upon stepping through the door, the house was not quite what they had been led to believe. The interior was filthy with nails scattered around the floors and grime on every surface. Beth reached out to the management company immediately in hopes that they would do due diligence in sending out a cleaner. They insisted that the house had been cleaned, and that if she wanted it done again, the cost would be added to her bill.
From here the issues just got worse. The floors were severely sloped and cracks had been badly patched on the walls and ceilings. The ceiling leaked when it rained, the doors wouldn’t lock, and water pressure to the main bathroom was so low that the toilet couldn’t flush. The cracks in the walls and ceilings grew by the day, exposing beams and rotting, molded wood. Beth and Marc, over the last eight months, have contacted no fewer than six members of the Mynd Property Management staff, only to be ghosted at almost every turn. Multiple inspectors have been sent to the house, each walking away detailing how dangerous the home is with the foundation and roof being in the condition they are. Beth begged for the foundation and other issues to be fixed, and Mynd informed her that that would not be happening. Even after eight months of constant communication, the only options that have been presented are wall patches or early release from their rental contract— which isn’t an option so soon after the painful expenses of an interstate move, deposits, etc. No attempts have been made to truly rectify any of the structural issues, which the company was aware of prior to renting out the property.
To add insult to injury, each member of the household has been experiencing worsening health since the move. Beth’s epilepsy has intensified, resulting in entirely new kinds of seizures; her son has had an unidentifiable respiratory illness for months. Upon completion of mold tests, it was discovered that spores are everywhere in the house— including the air. Further research showed that the various kinds of mold present on the tests contribute to every symptom being experienced by the family.
The Swans must get out of this home for their very lives. Please consider helping them get to a safe place, if you can. ❤️
note: extensive attempts at communication with Mynd have been thoroughly documented, as have photo/video proof of the devolving state of the building. Attorneys and local government have all gotten involved, but there is still no resolution in sight.
