Help the Streetdogs of Arugam Bay
Donation protected
Hi, it’s me Anni
Since a few years I’m calling the remote and raw town of Arugam Bay (Sri Lanka) my home. Starting off with my first dog Peanut that I took in from the street on my first year here, I have made it to 9 dogs and 5 cats residing with me currently
As you might already see, i got a big heart for animals and helping street animals has become something that I’m spending majority of my free time with. The reason for me to help out, is mainly the fact that there is no charities, organizations or vets around that are actively and consistently helping out.
Long story short - sick dogs are on their own in this town and they got no one to look out for them. A life for a Sri Lankan Street dog is harsh and cruel, having people or authorities around that take no responsibility for their life’s and wellbeing.
A few main problems that we are facing here are:
- A lack of sterilization programms leading to an overpopulation and a higher risk of fatal diseases to spread, puppies are born into harsh environments with no food or medical care around, females that are already starving have to endure energy consuming pregnancies and can’t provide for their litters
- Lack of vaccination programms highly contagious diseases like Parvovirus, Distemper and Rabies are common and animals that contract these viruses usually die painful and horrible deaths on the street
- Fungul Infections, Worms and Parasites like Ticks which transmit dangerous diseases like Babesia (Tick Fever)
- Maggot Wounds or Infected Cuts that need treatment to prevent infections that can lead to death
- Treatment of dogs in critical conditions due to viruses (my bathroom is an improvised intensive care unit) Fluid therapy, antibiotics and high nutrition diets
- Lack of food and water starved and critically dehydrated dogs on every corner
I believe that I can make an impact and that I have already done so in the past year. Until today I have mostly paid for all of it myself. This limits my ability to help and often my hands are tied when I see animals in need on the streets.
There is such a huge lack of pretty much everything essential in this town but I will write the costs of a few things down:
- One Vaccine against the fatal viruses distemper and parvo costs 2.500RS (7,50 Euro)
- To neuter/sterilize a dog costs 5.000-7000RS (ca 15 Euro-20Euro)
- To treat a dog for fungal infections, parasites and worms costs 3.000RS (ca 9 Euro)
Small donations can literally help me to save lifes by making the harsh conditions, these animals have to endure on a daily basis a little softer, by giving them basic yet really essential treatment and care.
I will keep this Go-Fund-Me Account active for as long as I feel like there is a need to do so. I will update everyone on my personal instagram account: through_anniseyes
Im forever grateful to every kind hearted person that will help me on my journey to make a positive change for these souls in the future ✨
