Help the Straka’s

Christianna is a 17 year old who lives in Georgetown, TX. She attends Grace Academy High School, where her father Ed Straka, teaches History. Her mother, Janice, works with adults with Intellectual Disabilities in Georgetown. Christianna is one of seven children with the Straka's.

Mid January, Christianna's mother, Janice, took her to be seen, as she was experiencing a 40 pound weight gain, a very bloated stomach, and knew that something was wrong. Extensive testing was completed, revealing that she had a large growth on her right ovary. She was admitted to the ICU at St David's in Austin, where she had 20 pounds of fluid drained, and stayed for a few days. She had surgery on 01/31/2018 to remove her ovary, and the mass (which was the size of a melon!). Results came back confirming stage 3 Granulosa cell cancer. It was hoped that all cancer cells were removed, but the gynecological oncologist is recommending a round of chemotherapy to insure that all cells are gone.

Christianna does not have insurance, and her family is having to pay out of pocket for the testing, being in the ICU for two days, ER visit, testing & pathology, surgery, and now the chemotherapy. Thankfully, this will be done at Dell Children's, and they are working with their financial situation, but still will be responsible for a large amount of money.
