Help the Stelzner Family in Bennett's Battle

**Update**

After two weeks in the hospital Bennett received his Genetic results. He has a very rare mitochondrial (nuclear) disorder with no available cure. Because Bennett is 1 of 60 diagnosed patients worldwide, (most are deceased) research is limited and his life expectancy and quality of life is unknown.

Bennett and the Stelzner family will have ongoing medical and care bills while navigating their future. Any help is greatly appreciated for this sweet family!

After months of visits to various doctors and two trips to the Davis ER, the Stelzner’s finally uncovered the reason behind Bennett's intense crying—averaging eight hours a day. Initially thought to be just extreme colic, the Stelzner’s brought him in to UC Davis on July 10th to investigate tremors, breath holding and a concerning honking noise, suspecting possible laryngomalacia, tracheomalacia or bronchomalacia.

After many tests, they discovered that Bennett has a life-threatening condition requiring urgent intervention. His blood tests revealed dangerously high ammonia levels, lactic acidosis, and metabolic acidosis, among other alarming results. It’s clear he has been suffering with this toxic blood for a while, leading to his current state.

Thanks to Rachelle's “mom intuition” and determination to find answers and the incredible team of doctors at UC Davis, over 75 lab tests, ultrasounds, EEGs, x-rays, and more have been conducted. A diagnosis has yet to be found and the doctors are working around the clock to find answers. This journey has involved extensive, painful testing on Bennett and will require a lengthy hospital stay, leaving Charles and Rachelle managing the challenges of having their other son Thomas back in Chico with family.
