On July 6th, 2019, Stephanie and her 4 children suffered a huge loss with the death of Eric Steiman. He was only 54. The entire family was shocked when Eric was diagnosed with 3 types of cancer last August. Eric fought hard and was making progress after receiving a bone marrow transplant in January in Nashville. Unfortunately, just a few weeks ago, Eric contracted a lung infection, for which there was no cure. He was treated in Nashville, at the Sarah Cannon Cancer Center for 3 weeks and the doctors did everything they could. He was brought to Chattanooga via ambulance in June and began Hospice care. He was lovingly cared for by Stephanie, their children, his brother, and a few close friends at her North Chattanooga home until the end. This outcome was unexpected and shocking to everyone after months of positive progress.
If you know Stephanie, you know how often she has reached out to help others during difficult times. She and Eric had donated hundreds of hours to Normal Park Magnet School during their time as parents and continued to help even after they no longer had children there. They then continued to volunteer at the Chattanooga Center for Creative Arts School, where Jared graduated from in 2015 and Erika will continue to attend until 2022. Together they have rescued hundreds of dogs and cats over the past 30 years and found them forever homes. They have welcomed people in to their home that needed a place to stay. She is a tireless mother, who has worked hard to raise 4 great kids and has helped many others along the way. She is a smart, industrious, and amazing person. And, now, she is left to carry on and raise their children without Eric’s help.
So many people have reached out to see how they could help Stephanie and their children so we thought this might provide a direct way to give back to a family that has helped so many. There are so many unknowns at a time like this, but, hopefully, this support will help ease some of those uncertainties and help the family during this heartbreaking time.
At this time, the family is still coming to terms with his passing. Stephanie and the kids are planning a Celebration of Life to remember Eric, when his ashes are returned home later this month.
