Dear friends, family, and kindhearted strangers
As grandparents, our role is supposed to be simple — to spoil our grandchildren, to cheer them on, to be a safe place filled with hugs, laughter, and love. We never imagined our days would instead be spent in hospital rooms, waiting areas, and emergency departments, praying for good news and trying to stay strong while our hearts quietly break.
Watching your child suffer is unbearable. Watching your grandchild suffer too is something no one can ever prepare for. We would give anything — absolutely anything — to take their pain onto ourselves. Instead, all we can do is hold their hands, wipe away tears, advocate for their care, and whisper that everything will be okay, even on the days we are not sure that it will be.
Our family has been living in survival mode for far too long. Between frightening diagnoses, surgeries, complications, and constant medical needs, our lives now revolve around keeping them safe, stable, and cared for. We attend appointments, manage medications, stay overnight at hospitals, and step in wherever we are needed — because that is what love does. But the emotional and financial toll has become overwhelming, and we have reached a point where we simply cannot do this alone anymore.
Asking for help is one of the hardest things we have ever done. Grandparents are supposed to be the ones who give support, not the ones who ask for it. But our love for our daughter and granddaughter is stronger than our pride. We are reaching out with humble, hopeful hearts, praying that compassion will help carry us through this times.
