Help the Spindles rebuild their lives

Hi, my name is Robyn Peel. Today a fire broke out in Superior, Colorado, burning down hundreds of homes and businesses. My sister-in-law’s family was one of those who lost everything they had in the fire. The following is their story as told by my sweet nephew Collin:

”It was a normal day in Colorado, really windy, but my mom said that happens basically once a week. We had just gotten to Colorado about a week and a half ago because my mom got a job here. We moved from our two story house in Alabama to a small apartment in Superior Colorado. We had just unpacked our 26 foot truck and everything was still very disorganized in our house. We had a wonderful family Christmas and life was well. Then my younger siblings saw some dusty clouds off in the distance and they thought they looked super cool. The clouds were moving super fast and they looked different than normal clouds. Being from wet Alabama we had no idea what smoke clouds looked like. Suddenly the houses down the street were obscured by the clouds. I looked out the window and saw a wall of fire across the street and shouted warning to my entire family. We quickly grabbed jackets and shoes and rushed outside only to be met with a thick cloud of ash. I had to help my little siblings Melody(8) and Camden(10) jump a fence to get to our car. My parents unlocked the garage and we piled into the car. We could only see a few feet in front of us land we drove to the back of the parking lot away from the fire. We said a quick prayer and realized that the gate was right next to the fire. We decided to stay at the back of the parking lot and we parked the car. We realized with the high winds, the fire would spread fast so we decided to try and reach a main road in the opposite direction of the fire by running to it. We abandoned the car and hopped a fence to get on a trail that went to the road. The wind was so strong almost each of us was knocked down at some point. As we looked behind us we could see flames engulfing the hill right before our house. We did our best to move away from the fire and make it to the road. We finally got to the road and realized we weren’t sure what to do next. Smoke was filling the entire sky to the Northwest. My mom tripped and then slammed her knee onto the side walk. We sat down to avoid being blown into the road. Then two trucks pulled up next to us and the person in the first truck asked if we needed help. These angels were both named Manuel. We split our family between their two trucks. Then they asked where we needed to go and drove us to some of our family in Northglenn. We thanked them profusely and were warmly welcomed into our family’s home. We had only brought the clothes we were wearing and a couple personal items like phones and wallets. Later in the evening we saw pictures of our home in flames on the Denver Post. This experience was the most traumatic event in my entire life and I can’t imagine how it felt for my 8 and 10 year old siblings. Now we find ourselves without our home and in a new state away from the area we knew best.”

This is an amazing family. They lost everything but the clothes on their backs. If you can donate to help them regain some of what they lost, that would be amazing. This is a family that deserves all the good things.
