We woke up in Blind River, Ontario the next morning -- the power was out. A hydroelectric pole caught fire by a gas station.
Two weeks ago we embarked on a hail mary gig to @sault.ste.marie to play with @headf1rsttheband (great bunch of people, crazy stories) at @sooblasterdays !!
We drove ten hours, stayed in our hotel after a fun show, having made new friends. We were tired, but this was just the beginning.
We awoke in our shared room, showered, piled into the Volvo to get home to #montreal.
Traffic was being directed only one way at a time for construction. After just reaching the end of a construction line, the car dies and we coast at 50 km/h into the Red Top Motel's parking lot, just inside a town called Iron Bridge.
We called every mechanic and towing company from Sault St Marie to Sudbury for two hours before getting an answer. Pinetree Express Towing would take our car to Jesse in Blind River and we would stay the night at Old Mill. We would spend the next 5 hours watching 2 Mennonites build a church roof before Byron, our tow driver, brought us to Blind River. Jesse had gone home, and would look at the car on Friday morning.
When we woke up, check out loomed, the power was out and our phones were dying. Jesse had been working on the car, the part he ordered had not arrived. We sat in a diner and weighed our options.
To order a Uhaul 15 footer and go home was our only available vehicle if the car wasn't fixable. We book [email redacted]ic walks into the local library and finds us a ride from a sweet local couple. We get to Jesse after he receives the new part and -- the part we actually need would only be there by next week. It would cost more than it was worth to fix.
We scrap the car, and get back on the road to our reserved UHaul in Elliot Lake.
We get there and as we are renting the uhaul, Chris and Penny say, "why don't we just drive you there for gas and two meals."
We took them up on it. We were stuck.
Chris drove us 10 hours to Montreal out of kindness for strangers in a bind and then back home. We owe you so much.
And that was the short version. Help us get back on the road through our Gofundme.
Thank you Chris and Penny! We love you!
