Please help The Sound Shop Recording Studio continue to serve the artists of our community.

As many of you know the building that we have been leasing for 15 years is going to be bulldozed for condos as early as August or September.

It humbles me to ask my community for help but without much time I don’t see another option.

My hope is that we can raise enough money with a little help from our friends for a down payment on a building and enough left over to renovate the space to build the studio inside our new permanent location, which has not been determined yet. We do have some buildings in mind.   

It doesn’t need to be fancy it just needs to function.

My vision for the new building would be a recording studio - rehearsal space - performance space, offering musicians an affordable, comfortable, safe and creative place to create art and showcase to an intimate group of fans.

I have been fortunate enough to support my family my entire life on music with my band Motor City Josh & The Big 3,

The Sound Shop Studio,

and Motor Town Sound, my live sound company.

It takes all three entities for me to survive.

I have been able to keep the fee at the studio low, which has given me the opportunity to be involved in many meaningful projects.

But it’s about way more than just me!

I have created jobs and opportunities for musicians and have taught and trained many young inspiring sound engineers in the studio and out in the field at live events,

many that have gone off to have their own successful careers in music.

I believe that I have served as an example that if you want to do what you truly love it can be done with a little talent, education, faith, hard work, tenacity, community and a little bit of luck.

I would argue that music is every bit as important of an art form as paintings or sculptures because you can take music with you anywhere you go.

And we do.

It becomes the soundtrack of our life.

Music therapy can help relieve stress, pain, anxiety, and depression

It can address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs

Listening to music can have many benefits for your mind, body and soul.

We will be having a party in the parking of The Sound Shop Studio to say goodbye to the current location and welcome the next chapter.
