We are raising money on behalf of our friends, David Soto and Alejandra Romero, who lost their home in the December 30, 2021 Marshall Fire in Superior, Colorado. While the Soto's lost their home and possessions, David, Aly, 7-year old Amelia, David's mother Teresa, and David's sister Karla evacuated safely.
David and Alejandra moved to Superior from Chile in 2017. In the time leading up to the fire, the Sotos created stability for their young daughter Amelia in spite of massive challenges-- learning a new language, coping with isolation from family in Chile due to Covid, and navigating the intricate path to citizenship in the United States.
December 2021 represented a step forward and two steps back for the Soto family. Just two weeks ago, we celebrated a long-overdue milestone with them as they received their Green Cards. Now they have to start from scratch after losing much of the life they built to the Marshall Fire.
For those of us who know David and Aly, we are certain they are up to the task. As colleagues at a Data Science company, David was a leader and role model for our young cohort of coworkers. When things are chaotic, David creates order. When others are upset, David listens and advises. Now as a friend, David is a model for character that we aspire to.
Aly perfectly complements David’s strengths. She has a unique brand of thoughtfulness, generosity and patience— hosting friends, mentoring Amelia, and supporting David. and we know that the Oracle community holds her in the same esteem as we have in David.
We want to ask you to join us in sharing our support and gratitude to the Soto family and helping them rebuild. The Sotos have immediate needs for short term and medium term housing as they adjust their long-term goal of buying a house in the Superior area. And, they need to replace a household full of possessions lost to the fire.
Thank you so much for considering this request, and we appreciate any contributions that you can make in support of the Soto family.
