The Situation
On June 12, 2025, early in the morning, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained Moises Sotelo, a loving father and community pillar, on his way to work at his vineyard management business, Novo Start Vineyard Service, in Newberg, Oregon.
Moises is known throughout the Willamette Valley for providing more than 20 years of expertise in local vineyards. He has earned respect and admiration from growers, winemakers, and workers alike. In 2020, Moises was honored by the Oregon Wine Board with its annual Vineyard Excellence Award. His sudden detention has left his family emotionally devastated and facing immediate legal battles.
Why We’re Raising Funds
Moises and his family’s situation is extremely fluid at this time. Regardless of what happens in the coming days and weeks, the Sotelo family urgently needs support to:
- Secure trusted immigration attorneys to represent Moises in court and navigate the complex legal proceedings.
- Cover bond fees, application costs, and court-related expenses to help gain his temporary release.
- Pay for travel, document translation, and administrative fees required throughout the legal process.
- Support the Sotelo family with immediate material needs, such as paying rent and groceries.
- Provide stability to the small business, Novo Start Vineyard Service, during this transitional time.
