Help the Sosa Family Honor Puppers

We are heartbroken to share the devastating news of the loss of Puppers, a beloved senior husky rescued through Family Dog Rescue.

Puppers’ journey with us began in 2021, when Family Dog Rescue first rescued her from Newman, CA found as a stray. In the fall of 2022, the Sosa family—Marcela and Sergio and their two sons—opened their home to Puppers as fosters while the shelter transitioned from San Francisco to Sonoma. It didn’t take long for them to realize she was already part of their hearts. Shortly after, they made it official and adopted her.

Marcela lovingly called Puppers “mi niña”—the daughter she never had. When both sons left for college, Puppers kept their nest full of love. She was also a registered emotional support dog, offering comfort to students at school with her gentle, calming presence.

Puppers quickly became a Family Dog Rescue mascot at adoption events. She volunteered at adoption events with her adopters, greeting people with her sweet and steady demeanor, and helping shy pups learn to trust. Everyone remembers her as sweet, funny, endlessly loving, and just a little sassy (especially when treats were involved). She truly had no mean bone in her body.

Tragically, on September 4, 2025, Puppers slipped out of the family’s yard. After weeks of heartbreak and searching, the family received the call they dreaded on September 28, 2025: Puppers had been found, but she was gone. Puppers body was found on the CalTrain tracks 500ft in a tunnel.

The Sosa family is devastated. Their home feels unbearably empty without their little girl. We are raising funds to help cover the costs of Puppers’ cremation at Pet’s Rest, so the family can give her the respectful farewell she deserves.
