This GoFundMe has been created to assist a local Manistique family who has been greatly impacted by a medical emergency.

On Thursday, July 31, 2025, 18-year-old Aiden Smith experienced cardiac arrest while at home. CPR was administered, thankfully, as this is what saved his life. After an ambulance ride to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital and determining that Aiden had a heart attack at home with only half his heart operating, Aiden was transferred to UP Health Systems in Marquette via airplane. Aiden remained in the ICU pending further testing until Friday, August 1, 2025, when he was then transferred to Corewell Hospital, Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids.

Since being at Corewell, Aiden has received a diagnosis of Lyme Carditis, so essentially his cardiac arrest was caused by a past wood tick bite. Aiden now has a pacemaker installed, which is currently being turned down slowly as it can be. There is no discharge date as of now.

Financial donations are being sought as this family has been displaced from their home, resulting in fuel costs, lodging costs, other household children being placed with family and friends, and fur babies being lodged at a kennel resulting in fees. This family is not able to be together during this very difficult time and is not able to work.

The Smith family is a family that has been in the Manistique community for a long time. This family has helped so many people throughout the years and has never asked for anything in return.
