Help the Skubal’s with baby Emerson

Hello everyone,

I am starting this gofundme for Tyler and Rachel Skubal. January 24, 2021 they found out they were expecting their first child! Everyone knows how exciting it is to celebrate having a baby, their excitement doubled on February 20, 2021 when they find out they were having twins! On April 13 they did their gender reveal, two sweet girls were expected to make their way into this world, Emerson and Oaklyn Skubal!! Sadly that excitement was stolen from them, on June 23 when Emerson was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect, called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) along with mitral stenosis, aortic atresia, and intact atrial septum. Emerson was labeled as high risk as her case is one of the worst. HLHS is a birth defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart and the left side of the heart does not form correctly. This heart defect occurs in 1 in 3,841 births. With all the odds stacked against her Tyler and Rachel have still continued to monitor her by traveling to Phoenix for bi-weekly echos OB appointments, and have a fetal MRI, they have to know in their heart they have done everything they possibly could for Emerson and their family. At 34 weeks, which is this Sunday Rachel will have to move down to Phoenix, leaving Tyler behind as he has to stay home and work. Anytime after 36 weeks Rachel can have the girls and medical decisions will have to be made. If they choose to do palliative care for Emerson they will have about 10 minutes to spend with her before she passes away. If they choose to do interventional care Rachel will deliver and Emerson will immediately be taken by Ambulance to Phoenix Children Hospital where she will undergo her first open heart surgery.

We are trying to raise money to help lessen the stress of having to work during these first few months and allow Tyler, Rachel, and the babies to spend quality time together as a family.
