My name is Lorie Wilson and I am raising money for what I hope is a Christmas miracle!
Brandon and Kristy Skaggs, along with their 4 children, have been fighting an uphill battle for years. What began as an autoimmune diagnosis for Kristy, causing one missed mortgage payment, quickly started to spiral for their family. Brandon had no work for 8 months during COVID, then Kristy was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, requiring a trip to MD Anderson. All of this caused them to get chronically behind on their mortgage payments. The mortgage company has continued to defer their payments while working on a loan modification. The loan modification was not approved, and the past due balance has been called in full with thousands of dollars in fees added on.
Now, they have two weeks to pay the past due balance or they have to vacate the property, with the home set to be auctioned off in two weeks. Brandon is a veteran and Kristy has been in a literal fight for her life against cancer, all while trying to keep their family in their home. We need your help! The balance due is now over $125,000.00 and while this may seem insurmountable, I believe that our community can come together to make it happen and keep this family in their home for the holidays!
**UPDATE** We reached the original goal but people still wanted to give to help cover an emergency fund for the family so I set the goal to automatically adjust. If it keeps going - maybe we could raise enough to pay the house off completely! Again - the original goal to save the house from foreclosure has been met. But if you still feel led to give, every dollar (minus the go fund me fees) will go to the Skaggs family. Kristy is still actively taking chemo and unable to work. Being able to have an emergency fund established will provide security and help ease some of the financial stress that goes along with battling cancer. Thank you for your kindness and generosity!
