Why I started the Simply Christian Podcast

Hi, my name is Barry and The Simply Christian Podcast began with a simple desire: to open the Bible, take God's Word seriously, and explore what it means to follow Jesus Christ in everyday life.

I didn't start Simply Christian because I wanted to become a podcaster. I started it because I believe the Bible still has something vital to say to people today, and I wanted to create a place where we could slow down, ask honest questions, explore Scripture carefully, and discover the story that runs through the whole Bible — the story of God's relationship with humanity and His plan of redemption through Jesus Christ.

As the podcast has developed, it has grown into something much bigger than I initially imagined. Episode by episode, we're working our way through Scripture, exploring its people, its history, its theology and, most importantly, the way it points us towards Christ.

There are also bonus episodes where we step outside the main series and look at subjects that matter to Christians personally — questions about faith, fear, suffering, doubt, hope and what it actually means to live as a Christian in the real world.

And that's why I'm asking for your help.

Simply Christian is an independent podcast. There isn't a large organisation behind it, a production company paying the bills, or a team of staff. The website, podcast hosting, recording, research, artwork and promotion all take time and resources.

At the moment, Simply Christian is being built largely through my own time and commitment, and although I'm more than happy to continue doing that, I would love to see where this podcast could go if we had the resources to take it further.

Your support would help us continue producing new episodes, maintain the website and podcast, improve recording and production, create artwork and promotional material, develop additional resources, and most importantly, help The Simply Christian Podcast reach more people.

I'm not looking to create something flashy or complicated. I simply want to create good, honest, Bible-centred Christian content that people can listen to wherever they are — whether they're a committed Christian wanting to go deeper into Scripture, someone who has questions about their faith, or perhaps someone who is simply beginning to explore Christianity for the first time.

Every contribution makes a difference.

Whether you are able to give £5, £10, £25, £50 or more, your contribution will help keep Simply Christian moving forward.

And if you can't give financially, that's absolutely fine.

You can still make a huge difference by listening, subscribing, sharing an episode with someone, following the podcast on social media, or simply telling somebody else about Simply Christian.

My hope is that this isn't simply a fundraising campaign. I hope it becomes an invitation to be part of the journey.

The Bible tells us in Matthew 28:19–20 to go and make disciples, teaching people to follow all that Christ commanded. I don't pretend that a podcast can replace the local church or personal fellowship, but I do believe that the internet gives us an incredible opportunity to put biblical teaching in front of people who might otherwise never walk through the doors of a church.
