The Sila Family’s farm in Waialua has always been a source of fresh vegetables and hope for their community. But recently, their lives were turned upside down by the devastating Kona low storm. In just one night, powerful winds and relentless rain wiped out everything they had worked so hard to grow—cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, and long beans.
The family’s home, which sits on the farm, was also badly damaged. Floodwaters ruined the flooring and roof, and the parents had to flee to high ground in the middle of the night to stay safe. At 2AM, their mom was still trying to get water out of the house, doing everything she could to protect her family and their home.
Now, the fields are in ruins and it will take months just to prepare the soil for planting again. The Sila Family faces a long road to recovery, with at least six months before they can hope to harvest crops and support themselves. Immediate and urgent support will help them repair their home, restore their fields, and provide for their family during this difficult time. Your generosity will make a real difference as they work to rebuild their lives and continue feeding their community.
Mahalo for your kōkua in helping our local farmers.
This GoFundMe was created by the volunteers from Help Maui Rise for the Storm Kōkua initiative and will directly benefit the Sila ʻOhana and their bank information was added for them to withdraw directly.
