Update 7/30/25

Miss Ellie Anna received her angel wings yesterday 7/29 around 9am. She was wrapped in her Mommy and Daddy’s arms. She’s at peace, Running, playing, watching movies just like she was always meant to do that her body didnt allow.

We will be celebrating Ellie with a Celebration of life. She’s brought so many smiles and happiness to so many people.

A garden for Ellie will be made in her honor at our house. Ellie has always had her own agenda, including being born here and passing away peacefully here. It’s only right to have her memorial here.

We are overwhelmed with all the love and support from all friends, family, doctors, nurses. Her home nurses are the most amazing people on this planet. They were with us every step of the way. Because of their love for Ellie, Rick and I were able to spend her last days on earth cuddling with her. They supported us and guided us with unconditional love and wisdom.

Ellie will alway be in our hearts. She was one of a kind and would tell you exactly what she wanted. She had spunk and sparkle. She spoke no words yet communicated so well.

Ellie Anna Shanks we will always love you. You will be missed but never forgotten. Until we meet again my love. ❤️

I'm reaching out on behalf of a loving family of four — Colleen and Rick Shanks, and their two beautiful daughters, Averie and Ellie. Over the past year, their lives have been turned upside down as they’ve faced every parent’s worst nightmare: watching their youngest daughter, four-year-old Ellie, battle stage five kidney disease.

Since October 2024, Ellie has bravely undergone dialysis three times a week. Despite the strength and resilience she’s shown, recent complications have led to a prolonged four-week hospital stay and multiple surgeries to try to slow the progression of her kidney failure.

After exhausting all possible medical interventions, Colleen and Rick have made the heartbreaking decision to bring Ellie home so she can be surrounded by love, comfort, and her big sister, Averie.

This fundraiser is to support the Shanks family during an unimaginably difficult time — to give them the gift of time together, free from the weight of mounting bills and daily financial worries. Your generosity will allow Colleen and Rick to focus on what matters most: holding Ellie close, making precious memories, and being fully present for both their daughters.
