Help the Severin Family Through This Tough Time

UPDATE 11/01/2024

Thatcher officially has stage 4 Burkett Leukemia. His bone marrow has 40% malignant cells, which changes his diagnosis from lymphoma to leukemia. They’ll continue with planned chemotherapy medicines but will ramp up the dose. The hope is that his body shows he is a good candidate for these medicines and they can stay the course for treatment.

While we are absolutely devastated by these words, our doctors are still very confident they can cure our son. Right now, the goal is to keep his blood pressure down, keep him comfortable, and move him enough so the fluid in his body dissipates. He does have a spot of pneumonia in his right lung, but they’ve watched very closely and it is improving with antibiotics. There are so many details we have left out because there’s just not enough time to discuss it all.

Cancer is so ugly. We never imagined the nasty, torturous, painful challenges caused by the disease. It’s something we would never wish upon anyone. Thankfully, we have a very strong-willed child who is fighting with all of his strength to overcome. His doctors, nurses, and family are pushing him to do everything he can. The community support is bewildering; we cannot believe the way you all continue to show up for us. The Severin family has posted an update on Thatcher. They have been told he has Burkitt Lymphoma. He has started chemotherapy and they are waiting for further test results.
