Help the Serna family recover from COVID-19
Hi, and thanks for visiting the Serna Family GoFundMe page. My name is David McNamee and I work with Edwin Serna. I’ve known Edwin for the last twelve years, he is a key member of my team and an amazing human being.
I’m starting this GoFund me campaign on his behalf as his family has been deeply affected by COVID 19.
The Serna Family gets COVID and things take a turn for the worse
Edwin and his family live in Manila, they were following government guidance and being careful with the pandemic. Being a young family, they didn’t fall into any of the severe risk categories. So when their symptoms started (loss of taste and a mild sore throat) they were surprised but not concerned.
When their tests came back positive, Alma’s health started deteriorating quickly. In early August, she was admitted to the hospital and went from confined treatment to the COVID ICU in a couple of days. She was intubated, needed blood transfusions every three days, and her organs were deteriorating. At one point she was resuscitated and remained in the COVID ICU for over a month.
Once she tested negative, and while still unconscious,Alma was transferred to a non-COVID ICU for three weeks.
Hope and coming back home
Once Alma regained consciousness, she went through a tracheostomy procedure as her lungs were still pretty weak. This helped her in her recovery and she was discharged on October 23rd --two and a half months after being admitted.
With the joy of having their wife and mom back home, came a lot of challenges, too. Alma hasn’t fully recovered, she still has a tracheo tube, needs to continue rehab treatments, and continues to need several medications.
The need
Given all the medical bills, the Serna Family has found themselves in a difficult financial situation. Their losses incurred to date include hospital bills, ongoing care requirements at home, child care, rehabilitation therapy, tracheostomy care supplies, home modifications and on and on. Our fundraising goal is $20,000 USD. This amount will help cover some of the Serna family’s debt as well as some of the new health-related expenses associated with their wife and mom’s recovery.
From Edwin
“We are grateful for my wife’s recovery and thankful for all who are supporting us and praying for us. We are very happy to have her back home and remain hopeful for a total recovery.”
Let’s help the Serna family out so they can enjoy being at home together without worrying about debt or financial burden.
