Update as of January 15, 2025
Well lots of dips and turns. Nathan was taken back to the hospital on Jan 3, only 3 days after they arrived back from TX. He was admitted with pneumonia and an abcess behind his surgical incision from the operation in Houston. He underwent surgery to install a drain to release the fluid in the abscess. All went well and then labs showed that his pneumonia was antibiotic resistant, making the doctors change the antibiotic and them having to stay an additional week. Hopefully they are going home today, as Nathan is currently taking his last day of iv antibiotics. Please follow #updateonnate on Instagram

Update as of January 2, 2025
Jennifer and Nathan are home from MD Anderson in Houston, TX and the surgery went well. Surgeons were pleased and felt secure they got clean margins.

They were able to enjoy a visit from their kids for Christmas (this pic was made on Christmas Eve). I know that their hearts really needed that and they are so grateful that it happened.

They will be returning to MD Anderson in March for Nathan's next PET scan, and another week of appointments.
We are so grateful for all who have contributed to this gofundme, as well as all of those who have helped in many other ways. Your continued prayers are much needed as Nathan recovers from the extensive surgery to his abdomen and with a compromised immune system, tries to remain well during this season where many are sick. Obviously, the financial strain continues in this journey.

Hello! Many of you know Jennifer and Nathan Seltzer and their 3 children. I have been friends with them for over 28 years and I have decided to start this much needed gofundme, to help them with Nathan's medical expenses and travel expenses, as they have to go back and forth to M.D. Anderson in Houston for treatment of his rare cancer.

In late summer of 2023, Nathan found out that a spot on his tongue was cancer. The journey began with scans, testing, seeing all kinds of doctors to line up the best treatment. After months of trial and error treatment plans, an extensive 11 hour surgery was done at Atrium Main in Charlotte, NC. Part of his tongue was removed and his jawbone on one side, with reconstruction being done using bone and tissue from his leg. Nathan recovered well after much rest, but just a few short months later, the cancer had spread. It is a very rare cancer, based on where it is located on the outer abdomen. Doctors here recommended them to get more opinions, so Jennifer arranged to get him to Wake Forest, Duke, City of Hope Atlanta, and M.D. Anderson. M.D. Anderson was their choice based on treatment plans, the fact that they had seen and dealt with his rare kind of cancer, and have given better outcomes.. M.D. Anderson assured them that being the number one cancer hospital, they knew how to address his specific cancer.

Nathan is on a feeding tube and has to receive fluids multiple times a week. This has made travel to TX difficult to say the least. They just returned from their 3rd treatment and were told there that the treatment isn't working and the only option is surgery. They will leave in early Dec to head down for pre op testing then 5 days later have another rather extensive surgery, with 5 different surgeons being present for all the different parts, including reconstruction. Basically they are going to be in TX for ar least 4 weeks which means they will not be home for Christmas and this will be the first time that their family has been apart for the holidays. Their kids are 22, 19, and 16, so this is very hard, especially since the youngest is still in school.

Along with having to pay for all of his medical expenses, they are having to plan for flights, lodging, food for Jennifer (since Nathan can't eat), and transportation. With the two of them being self employed and only limited hours being able.to be worked, finances have become burdensome I wanted to step in and start this for them to take away any sense of them asking for help. If your heart feels led, please donate to help this precious family fight cancer and be able to focus on their family and each other instead of worrying about finances.
