Help the DC Program Build an Adaptive Playground
Donation protected
Hi everyone! The SEAPCO Developmental Center Program is looking to build an adaptive playground. The Special Education Association of Peoria County serves many districts around the area. One of the specialized programs, the Developmental Center is housed at Norwood Primary School located in Bellevue, IL. The students in the Developmental Center have multiple disabilities categorized as severe and profound. All students in the program are in wheelchairs and need physical assistance to complete various tasks. Most of our students are non-verbal and communicate their wants and needs with assistive technology such as AAC devices and switches. Our dream is to create an inclusive environment where all students regardless of their abilities are seen, heard and represented. This program is working to create as many unified opportunities as possible to integrate the General Education peers with our classroom. We have done so through unified PE, unified music and unified reading time. We would like to create a unified recess time. This is a time when natural social interactions can occur which our students highly benefit from. The adaptive playground will ensure our school is unified in all aspects ensuring all students have the same opportunities to play at recess.
We are working to raise money to make this dream a reality for my students! Thank you for your consideration and time. The DC team can’t thank you enough!
