Help The Sardine & Staff Stay Afloat!

The Sardine / Recess Ops is a brand spanking new bar, live music venue and internal pop-up record shop located in San Pedro, CA — a blue-collar beach community housing the vast Port of Los Angeles. After four exhausting years trying to get our business operation up and running, we finally opened our doors on December 11, 2019. We were open for approximately three months before being directed to shut down for the unforeseeable future on March 15, 2020 to help curb the spread of the novel coronavirus along with new social distancing practices put in place by our governor. We were deemed a nonessential locale. Turns out, social gathering is very important to our line of business.

Within the 1984 song “Corona” (later used as the Jackass theme song), by hometown punk heroes, the Minutemen — guitarist, singer: D. Boon prophesizes, “The people will survive, in their environment.” We like to believe he’s right.

We want to assure you that we are doing everything in our power to withstand this pandemic and to keep the Sardine / Recess Ops in operation for the immediate future.

We are looking into every means of support possible, including federal and local grants and loans. These funds cannot be counted on and so we must humbly ask for your support. We know what a difficult and uncertain time this is for everyone, and we understand that there are many individuals and organizations in need. If you’re in a position to support us, we will be extremely grateful and any donation to this campaign will contribute to the cash resources we need to take care of our staff and address the immediate future. At the Sardine we’re trying to open up new avenues to share with the community, with the focal point being on music. We are also interested in other forms of entertainment too, be it comedy, karaoke, art, film, etc. We also make it a point to carry some of the best grown-up beverages on the market.
