Help the Rupcic family through surgery and beyond

I’m Lily Rupcic’s sister Erin, and I’m creating this fundraiser because Lil is travelling to Sydney for neuropelveology surgery (surgical treatment of pelvic nerve conditions), and their little family needs our support!

This surgery is a huge blessing and opportunity, as those who know Lil’s story will understand, and for those who don’t please read more at the bottom of the page.

Lil has lost much strength and mobility as her condition has progressed, often bed-bound with incredible pain for days at a time. Elijah, her husband, still needs to work full time to cover bills, all while they both strive to maintain a calm and stable environment for Laszlo (who is 3).

They are also facing the reality of all the upcoming expenses related to the surgery and recovery period, and have reached the point of overwhelm and collapse. It has reached the point, after years of struggle, where they can’t do this alone anymore. Their challenges now would be greatly eased through financial support!

The purpose of this fundraiser is to cover medical and travel expenses relating to the surgery in Sydney, Elijah’s time off work to care for Laszlo and Lil (he is casual and not paid for days off), and cleaning, food, rent and childcare throughout the immediate and longer- term process (from now through surgery and recovery, especially the first 8 weeks).

They have gone through so much over the last 5 years and deserve all the comfort, ease and support we can give them now so they can focus on healing and thriving.

Over the last 5 years, and since Lil was told she had permanent nerve damage from her complicated pregnancy, she has been through hell and back. She was told her condition wouldn’t improve and that nothing further could be done to manage her pain and immobility. But, feeling something had been missed, she showed immense fortitude in continuing to fight for herself, through chronic pain and disability, raising a child, moving house multiple times and the financial pressure of Elijah having to take huge chunks of time off work to look after her as she became sicker (and all the uncertainty and instability this brought with it).

Lil’s courageous pursuit of the truth led her to her incredible doctor, who confirmed her belief that this isn’t the end of the road, that there is hope- an opportunity for expert excision of disease and treatment of pelvic nerve compression - and the chance of freedom from pain.
